The Bowie album most often cited as a favourite by fellow pop-stars, Hunky Dory contains the singles Changes and Life On Mars? Produced by David and Ken Scott, it is an eclectic mix of gentle folk, kitschy tributes and out-and-out pop. While initially not a massive hit, it did reasonably well, going on to be a bone fide hit after the huge success of Ziggy… the following year. The cover art sees Bowie with flowing blond hair in a pose influenced by Marlene Dietrich photos. It also brings to our attention the musicians who would be reborn as The Spiders from Mars.
