Recorded in secret over two years, with an upfront single (Where Are We Now?) issued to an unsuspecting public on David Bowie’s 66th birthday, The Next Day was streamed in its entirety on iTunes for several days before its release. It marked a full ten years since Bowie’s last album, surprising fans and the media alike who had presumed DB was now retired. It sold extremely well worldwide and was – on the whole – loved by the critics. A Tony Visconti- produced rock album and declared by many to be ‘classic Bowie’, it created huge interest, yielding mass press attention over a sustained period.
Bowie is back.
