Lazarus, the final work of David Bowie that premiered in New York in November 2015 before his death in January 2016 and ran on beyond it, is to receive its London premiere. It will begin performances October 25th at the King’s Cross Theatre, prior to an official opening November 8th, for a run through January 22nd 2017.

Original New York cast members Michael C. Hall, Michael Esper and Sophia Anne Caruso* will reprise their performances in Ivo van Hove’s production, with further casting to be announced.

The musical, written by David Bowie and Enda Walsh and inspired by Walter Tevis’s novel The Man Who Fell To Earth, revolves around Thomas Newton (Hall), an alien who “remains still on Earth—a ‘man’ unable to die, his head soaked in cheap gin and haunted by a past love. We follow Newton during the course of a few days where the arrival of another lost soul might set him finally free.”

Lazarus brings together a score of 18 hit David Bowie songs from across his career, with tracks such as “Sound and Vision”, “All The Young Dudes” and “This is Not America”, to the more well-known “Heroes”, “Changes” and “Life on Mars?”. These new arrangements blend alongside a number of specially written songs, including “No Plan”, “Killing a Little Time” and “When I Met You” to create a memorable and highly theatrical musical score.

Produced by Robert Fox Ltd. and Jones/Tintoretto Entertainment, the show has scenic and lighting design by Jan Versweyveld, costumes by An D’Huys, video design by Tal Yarden, original sound by Brian Ronan with UK sound by Tony Gayle, choreography by Annie-B Parson, hair and wig design by Richard Mawbey, and musical direction by Henry Hey. Casting is by Jill Green.

Rolling Stone praised the show as a “surrealistic tour de force.”
