This, his seventh album, consists of cover versions of some of Bowie’s favourite songs – including The Kinks, The Who and Them – and was the last one working with most of the original Spiders From Mars. It did extremely well commercially – on several occasions, taking into account reissues over the subsequent years. He wanted to bring less well-known British songs to the attention of the wider US market. Co-produced with Ken Scott, Pin Ups was intended to be the first of two such albums – the second mooted to be called ‘Bowie-ing Out’, which was ultimately never recorded. The striking cover depicts Bowie with the hugely-successful model, Twiggy.
