Bowie’s third long player release, and the first to feature an embryonic version of the future Spiders From Mars, The Man Who Sold The World is a hard rock album with elements of heavy metal. It has been compared to Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, with some critics suggesting that it heralded the dawn of what came to be known as ‘glam rock’. Again produced by Tony Visconti (who also played bass), it was received better in the US than the UK on its first release, going on to more substantial UK acceptance on its rerelease towards the end of 1972.
