This years Bowie’s Beckenham Oddity event takes place on Saturday 11th August, all money raised from the event goes to the Bowie Bandstand Restoration and Plaque Fund. So far the council have raised £66,699.60 through the previous festivals, donations and brick sales (you can buy a personalised brick at the Bowie Bandstand) They are just over the halfway mark needed.

The David Bowie Archive have kindly donated a signed Bowie item for this years auction and there are prints by Vernon Dewhurst, The Duffy Archive and Guido Harari.

David Bowie as well as everyone involved in the 1969 Growth Summer Festival will always be remembered in Beckenham for generations to come. To some it’s just a park in south London with a bandstand that’s falling apart, to others it’s music history for the local community as well as worldwide. Tony Visconti who performed at the original festival with Bowie on a reggae version of Space Oddity nicknamed the bandstand Lazarus….and just like Lazarus the Bowie Bandstand will rise from the dead for people around the globe to visit.
