Tony Visconti: This is my third solo album. It has been at least two years in the making only because I have constantly worked as a Record Producer for other artistes. I had to literally book myself recording dates in two studios in New York and London too, reach out to the musicians I wanted to play with. I am very fortunate to have at my disposal Visconti Studio in Kingston University, Kingston, UK. I have since become a professor there and when I am in London, usually in September, I teach for a few days. I am indebted to Professor Leah Kardos PHD for giving me time to make my music in the studio and thanks to the British musicians with whom I love to work with. I have a musical crew in New York too, where I retain a smaller NYC studio called HUMAN, that is run by my son Morgan Visconti and his colleagues.

Unlike my previous album, It’s A Selfie, that had lots of programmed instruments, Apollo 80 is mainly played by real live musicians, and it sounds all the better for it.

The line up consists of Jannek Zechner – guitars, Alex Marchisone – drums (UK) , Tommy Allen – drums (USA). Jonathan Russell – violin, Carys Morgan – French horn (South Wales, UK), Donny McCaslin – tenor saxophone, Paul Cuddeford – lead guitar (UK), Greg Holt – fiddle, Bishi Bhattacharya – vocals (UK), Me – guitars, mandolin, ukulele, basses, recorders, Stylophone and backing vocals.

The album was mastered by Alan Silverman

Reasons for the cover art and the album’s title are twofold: I have completed 80 revolutions around the Sun and I feel like an astronaut, hence the title Apollo 80, my Space project. The military title for astronauts is Commander. M name is preceded by CDR, the abbreviation for Commander. The Formento team found an astronaut suit and ‘stressed’ it to appear well-traveled and somehow, they transformed my studio to look like a spaceship flight deck.
